Survey: Americans more accepting of risqué tunes

NEW YORK — A new survey shows Americans are increasingly accepting of musicians who sing potentially offensive lyrics.

The survey conducted for the First Amendment Center and released Wednesday found that two-thirds of Americans agree that musicians should be allowed to sing songs with lyrics that some might think are offensive. That’s up from 51 percent when the same question was asked in 1997.

The survey also found that 62 percent of Americans believe public schools should not have the authority to discipline students for offensive material that is posted from their home.

The Washington-based group interviewed 1,006 adults for its survey over the telephone last month. T

Lachey, Minnillo ‘marry on tropical island’

NICK Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo were married today in an intimate ceremony on an undisclosed tropical island, People magazine reported.

The pair exchanged vows before 35 of their closest friends and family, a rep for the couple told the celebrity magazine.

Minnillo, 30, wore a two-piece Monique Lhuillier outfit for the ceremony.

Her bridal look featured an embellished lace corset with rose and crystal detail, tailored bow belt at her waist and hand tufted skirt made of silk faille –  topped off with a chapel length tulle veil.

Lachey, 37, wore a Dolce & Gabanna suit to say “I Do.”

The pair, who got engaged in November, had been secretive about the details of their nuptials.

“It was all very vague,” the former 98 Degrees singer said about the instructions for the event given in advance to their guests.

But in June, the couple promised they would give fans a peek into their wedding in a TLC special entitled Nick & Vanessa’s Dream Wedding.

Top Ten Drummers Of All Time

Music news website Gigwise recently came up with their list of the top 50 drummers of all time – but did they get it right? Here, we’ll be rounding up their top ten. Let’s see if UG readers think they pulled it off.

First, a little on the history of modern rock drumming.

Traditionally, the bass drum, snare drum, cymbals and various percussion instruments were played by hand by individual people, just like you see in a military setting. It wasn’t till around 1890 that experimentation with foot pedals began. In 1909, the Ludwig family started a drum company and patented the drum pedal system.

Album review: Cool Kids, ‘When Fish Ride Bicycles’

Reed and Ingersoll flip clever rhymes that pay homage to vintage cars (“Rush Hour Traffic,” “GMC”); smooth-talking radio DJs (“Boomin’ “); pre-Lebron-era hoops and fashion (“Penny Hardaway”); Chicago winters (“Bundle Up”); Chicago summers (“Get Right,” “Summer Jam”); and girls, girls, girls. The MCs never get particularly excited, keeping a cool reserve that requires listeners to meet them halfway. Ingersoll, who handles most of the production, favors midtempo beats and terse keyboard riffs, modest almost to a fault. A few guests (Bun B, Mayer Hawthorne, Travis Barker, Asher Roth) expand the sound slightly and beef up the hooks without resorting to gimmickry, though the Neptunes-produced “Get Right” could pass for an outtake from Pharrell Williams’ N.E.R.D.
