R.E.M. Join Fight Against Fraudulent Ticket Selling Practices
– R.E.M. have thrown their support behind the consumer protection not-for-profit agency First Fans Coalition. The organization’s mission is to protect music fans from deceitful ticket-selling practices.
In joining the cause, the legendary rockers have teamed up with a variety of top acts from various genres, including John Mayer, Maroon 5 and Earth Wind and Fire, along with over 30 others.
The president of FFC, Michael Marion, said in a press release that the Internet has changed how fans purchase tickets, which has led to an abundance of questionable practices:
“The Internet has revolutionized the way fans access and purchase tickets, but it has also created an environment where fans are routinely victimized by fraudulent ticketing practices.”
A major problem, added Maroon 5′s Adam Levine, is that scalpers are pushing up ticket prices:
“Our band wants our tickets to be sold at the face value that we set, so that the real fans can get the tickets — not scalpers.”
