Design Your Own Chapman Guitar

Music instructor and entertainer Rob Chapman has just opened the voting to let users of YouTube, Ultimate-Guitar and the internet in general design a guitar for Chapman to produce.

Chapman Guitars, having previously produced guitar models ML1 and ML2 have now begun production on the user designed ML3, starting with the question of whether to have it as a six string or a seven string.

I love all kinds of guitars so handing over the huge responsibility of picking the core spec was quite a weight off,” Chapman told me after producing the first YouTube video for the project.

Getting the public involved in the design was so successful that I just decided to keep collaborative design as one of our core values… I never know what I’m going to make and I like it that way, I don’t tell people what they should buy – they tell me what I should make.

Voting can be done via either Chapman’s YouTube channel and also via a at Ultimate-Guitar. The project is intended to be a long term one, with voting spanning many weeks in order to ensure that everybody has time to make themselves heard.

…All Chapman Guitars are high spec but affordable and always a blank canvas that you can customize. I guess we are aimed at budget conscious by spec hungry guitarists who want a say in the design of their guitars,” continued Chapman.

There really is no bad result because people just vote for what ever they like. I just can’t wait to see what the first ML3 will become.
