Rockin’ Robbins
Sure, he won an Oscar for his riveting role in “Mystic River.” And he appeared in or directed films as diverse as the baseball comedy “Bull Durham” to the prison movies “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Dead Man Walking.” Now, after 30 years as an actor, Tim Robbins is finally getting into the family business — music.
Robbins’ father, Gil, who died this spring, was a New York folk-music legend who performed with the Highwaymen and ran legendary Village folk-scene hangout the Gaslight Cafe. His brother Dave is a well-known film and TV composer. Still, as one of Hollywood’s most respected players, you have to wonder why Tim’s finally singing his own tune at 52.
