Maurice Sendak, children’s author, dies at 83

 

NEW YORK – American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, whose children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are” has been a standard bedtime story for at least three generations, has died at the age of 83.

Sendak died during the night at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut from complications from a recent stroke, a hospital spokesperson said on Tuesday. He lived in nearby Ridgefield, Connecticut.

“We are terribly saddened at the passing of Maurice Sendak. He was a glorious author and illustrator, an amazingly gifted designer, a blisteringly funny raconteur, a fierce and opinionated wit, and a loyal friend to those who knew him.

Free Cone Day At Ben & Jerry’s April 3

Ben & Jerry’s celebrates 34 years of business Tuesday with its annual Free Cone Day at participating Scoop Shops. Stop in between noon and 8 p.m. for a free scoop of your favorite flavor.

This year, the Vermont-based ice cream company introduces Greek frozen yogurt to its product line, in such flavors as Raspberry Fudge Chunk, Peanut Butter Banana, Strawberry Shortcake and Blueberry Vanilla Graham.

Participating Scoop Shops in Connecticut include locations in Branford, Canton and West Hartford, and stores at Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos. Ben & Jerry’s outposts at Showcase Cinemas in Manchester and Connecticut Post 14 De Lux in Milford are not included.

Review: GAME OF THRONES Season 2 Ready for War

When you play the Game of Thrones, you win or you die.

When you watch the Game of Thrones, you just plain win. Luckily, that truth from Season 1 carries over into Season 2, judging by the first episode of the year.

HBO’s fantasy hit returns on Sunday April 1, 2012, continuing the adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s series of novels called “A Song of ice and Fire.” This season is based mostly off of book two, “A Clash of Kings,” and the title is self evident from the very beginning.

The second season picks up directly after season one; this is honestly less “season 2 episode 1″ as much as it is “episode 11.” The cast expands, certainly, to introduce people like Stannis Baratheon and his clan, but the core cast all gets their moment in the spotlight in the first fifty minutes of the new season.

Kardashians Face Allegations That Their Clothing Line Is Manufactured By Slaves

Can this family ever find a way to stay out of the news for a few days?

It’s been a tumultuous fall for the Kardashians, with news of Kim’s divorce from NBA player Kris Humphries, Khloe’s move to Dallas following husband Lamar Odom’s trade to the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and now this: Star magazine has published allegations that the Kardashians employ slave laborers in China to manufacture their clothing line.Specifically, Star says that the Institute for Global Labour and Human Rights discovered conditions in the Chinese factories where Kardashian-branded products are made to be “horrific.” Reportedly, numerous human rights violations have been made. Just three years ago, a Random House marketing executive declared, “It’s not the Judy Blume world anymore.” This week, the publishing house is tasked with proving itself wrong.

Starting March 21, Blume – the celebrated author of Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret – will see more than a dozen of her titles released as e-books.
