Swope celebrates student art April 7 to May 12

TERRE HAUTE — The Swope Art Museums 45th Annual Student Art Exhibition, made possible by Old National Bank, runs from April 7 to May 12. The public reception will be from 1 to 3 p.m. April 14 with the high school award presentation at 2 p.m.

The student exhibition is a favorite tradition, showcasing the work of students from kindergarten through high school. Begun in 1967, under the leadership of Swope director Howard E. Wooden in cooperation with the Vigo County School system, the exhibition has since grown to include surrounding counties at the high school level.

As the Swope celebrates its 70th anniversary in 2012, it emphasizes that this exhibition is a rare opportunity for students to see their work alongside the great American artists represented in the Museums collection.

Hundreds of students from 33 elementary, middle and high schools are represented in the exhibition. E

Movie Review – The Raid

Now I’ve seen a lot of martial arts action films! I’ve also seen a lot of foreign cinema! But one thing I’ve never seen is an Indonesian film, let alone an Indonesian martial arts action film! That was until I saw ‘The Raid’ which is simply the best modern day martial arts action film I’ve ever seen! Great writing, decent acting, amazing action, genuine tension, and directing as slick as anything Hollywood can do! This was simply a kick ass film that all males should see on the big screen with their mates!

A+ From Me!!!

And while it’s silly of me to give away my feelings on the first season of the series so early in my review, allow me to tell you why I’m so googly-eyed over this wonderful, wonderful world.

Game of Thrones is based on the hit book series from author George R.R. Martin

BOLTZMANN’S TOMB by Bill Green

This is not a book about the great Austrian physicist, Ludwig Boltzmann, nor, despite its importance in my life, is it about Antarctica. It is more about time and chance and the images and dreams we bring with us from childhood which shape who we are and what we become. It is about science and atoms and starry nights and what we think we remember, though we have made it up.

Boltzmann’s Tomb: Travels in Search of Science by Bill Green is at once a travelogue and joyous celebration of science. T
