Norman poet Joe Dale Tate Nevaquaya is honored for 19-year-old manuscript

NORMAN — A poet and visual artist, Joe Dale Tate Nevaquaya has spent most of his life recording reactions to the world around him. He never thought that outward expression would lead to a 2012 Oklahoma Book Award for Poetry for “Leaving Holes and Selected New Writings,” a collection of works he wrote decades ago that was published last year by Mongrel Empire Press.

River City features works of Todd Stokes during May

TERRE HAUTE — Todd Stokes artwork has a tendency to fall into two separate bodies of work one that represents that simple break where we stop to notice, to realize what we are given, the natural world that we so often take for granted, and a second that celebrates the creative energy that brought it all together.

Baldwin to host anti-fracking event

Alec Baldwin is taking a stand to prevent the potential contamination of water sources in his native New York by hosting a special screening of the controversial Oscar-nominated documentary .

The environmental film highlights the ramifications of natural gas in America’s water supply due to the industry’s use of hydraulic fracturing, aka fracking, a technique which critics claim can contaminate water from the ground and put air quality at risk.

Movie Review – The Five-Year Engagement

I’m a decently big fan of the film ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshal’ and its semi sequel ‘Get Him To The Greek’, so when I heard there was another film from the same director coming out I was keen to check it out! Then when I saw it was starring Jason Segel, who was the lead in the directors first film ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshal’ and many other recent great comedies, I was even more pumped for it!

Maurice Sendak, children’s author, dies at 83

 

NEW YORK – American writer and illustrator Maurice Sendak, whose children’s book “Where the Wild Things Are” has been a standard bedtime story for at least three generations, has died at the age of 83.

Sendak died during the night at Danbury Hospital in Connecticut from complications from a recent stroke, a hospital spokesperson said on Tuesday. He lived in nearby Ridgefield, Connecticut.

“We are terribly saddened at the passing of Maurice Sendak. He was a glorious author and illustrator, an amazingly gifted designer, a blisteringly funny raconteur, a fierce and opinionated wit, and a loyal friend to those who knew him.
